Intoduction to Project Quality Management

A project with effective quality management has the potential to shine. When you ask an end-user if the product was delivered on schedule, on budget, or featured all of the goods within its scope, you’re likely to get a “yes.” When you ask the same end-user about the product’s quality, a satisfied customer is allowed the opportunity to praise the virtues of your exceptional job. Quality Management is a PMI Project Knowledge Area. The importance of quality in project management cannot be overstated. We will look at approaches and metrics for incorporating quality into project planning and implementation.

The problem for technology projects is defining specifications and specific quality characteristics correctly. Specific deliverables, such as reports and documents, can have quality established (and preferably measured and assessed). Quality management is founded on documented requirements for project deliverables. Project planning should serve as the foundation for project execution and quality assurance operations.

Quality Planning

Quality planning defines quality metrics and the degree of anticipated quality for those parameters, as well as the tools and processes used to guarantee that the level of quality is fulfilled. Quality planning should take place in conjunction with the formulation of project deliverable requirements and work planning. Quality planning for technology projects may involve several critical elements, some of which overlap with those outlined for information technology projects and others that are specific to technology. Many IT development initiatives, for example, place a premium on utility and usability.
